When you mix beautiful light and a beautiful couple in love, magic is bound to happen! Derrick and Leah’s engagement session was such a special treat for me and I loved getting to not only capture the sweet bond that these two have with one another, but also learning more about them both in front of and behind my camera. Both Derrick and Leah have this carefree spirit about them, which I love! They weren’t afraid to just let loose during their session, laugh with one another, and just be themselves.

I had just discovered Penny’s Bend Nature Preserve in Durham a week prior for another engagement session, and when Leah saw it, she instantly fell in love and knew she had to have her session there too! It’s always fun returning to a spot that you’ve previously shot at to see what new things each couple brings to their session! I loved the soft color palette of Derrick and Leah’s wardrobe, and how it so perfectly complemented the scenery around them. We ventured through fields of tall grass, chased the gorgeous evening light, and finished with a slow dance to the song Derrick and Leah will be dancing to as husband and wife in just a few short months. To say the least, their session was nothing short of incredible and made this photographer’s heart very happy!
